Dell Latitude 5500 Review

Today we review the Dell Latitude E5500 Laptop.Initially, aa pb9nc6b samsung originalour impressions for this laptop were rather lackluster. Having been used to the Lenovo ThinkPad X60, we were put off by the size and heft of the E5500.bateria hp probook 4730s However, after spending time on the machine (and writing this review on it), we were genuinely impressed by its performance and usability. asus li ion battery pack a32 k55The E5500 is NOT a road warrior's laptop. Instead, it is more for the business user who needs a machine that can be moved easily enough when needed (i.e. to the conference room), and still offers strong performance, ergonomics, and screen size. 4 Reasons to Buy the Dell Latitude 5500 1. Battery life Wow, we were able to squeeze more than 17 hours of Web browsing and 14 hours of video playback from a 68Wh battery unit. cargador msi gs40This Dell will last a lot of hours away from the charger. 2. The build The notebook has a neutral industrial look. Carbon fiber composites are incorporated into the build.cargador pc dell xps 15 9560 amazon The profile is 20mm and this notebook weighs 2.0 kg. It's an easy-to-carry device. 3. The performance Our test device is configured with Intel Core i5-8265U and UHD 620. 710412 001The machine is snappy all the time - Web browsing, HD videos, light games, etc. In addition. the device is cool and quiet under load. 4. The display The panel (LG WJDPN-156WFC LGD05E6) of Latitude 5500 has good viewing angles, it's completely PWM-free,bateria asus a53s media markt and the contrast ratio is fine too - 1160:1. Dell Latitude 5500 is equipped with an IPS panel, model number LG WJDPN-156WFC (LGD05E6) -the same seen on the Latitude 5501. Its diagonal is 15.6''(39.62 cm), and the resolution 1920 * 1080 pixels. The screen ratio is 16:9, and we are looking at a pixel density of - 142 ppi, and a pitch of 0.18 * 0.18 mm. vgp ac19v33The screen turns into Retina when viewed at distance equal to or greater than 60cm (24'')(from this distance one's eye stops differentiating the separate pixels, and it is normal for looking at a laptop).bateria asus k53s Viewing angles are excellent. We offer images at 45 Degree to evaluate image quality. Values of dE2000 over 4.0 should not occur, and this parameter is one of the first you should check if you intend to use the laptop for color-sensitive work. 849910 850The contrast ratio is fine - 1160:1. To make sure we are on the same page, we would like to give you a little introduction to the sRGB color gamut and the Adobe RGB.bateria portatil hp hstnn lb6v To start, there‘s the CIE 1976 Uniform Chromaticity Diagram that represents the visible specter of colors by the human eye, a41 k53giving you a better perception of the color gamut coverage and the color accuracy. Inside the black triangle, you will see the standard color gamut (sRGB) that is being used by millions of people in HDTV and on the web.l14m2p21 As for the Adobe RGB, this is used in professional cameras, monitors, etc for printing. Colors inside the black triangle are used by everyone and this is the essential part of the color quality and color accuracy of a mainstream notebook. Still, we’ve included other color spaces like the famous DCI-P3 standard used by movie studios, as well as the digital UHD Rec.2020 standard. Rec.2020, however, is still a thing of the future and it‘s difficult for today’s displays to cover that well. cargador dell xps 13 9360We‘ve also included the so-called Michael Pointer gamut, or Pointers gamut, which represents the colors that naturally occur around us every day. The yellow dotted line shows Dell Latitude 5500s color gamut coverage. Its display covers only 53% of the sRGB/ITU-R BT.709 (web/HDTV standard) in CIE1976. Aesthetics & Build Quality: The Latitude E5500 weighs 6.4lbs, which is a bit heavier than the average 15 notebook. It is not ideal for quick use on the road because of its overall size and 1.5 thickness.bateria asus a55a True road warriors who are looking for a more portable solution with similar performance numbers will want to consider the 4.3lb Latitude E6400 14.1 Laptop. The Latitude E5500 certainly does look the part of a business laptop. You won't find glossy paint jobs, bezel-less screens, or touch-sensitive buttons on this machine. The LCD back is a smooth black matte aluminum with a classy understated chrome Dell logo off to the side.bateria hp envy 15 The rest of the chassis is primarily polycarbonate (plastic). Overall, it is solidly built. Our only real complaints were the slight flex around the palm rest area and the flimsiness of the latch. The full-sized keyboard has a firm, solid feel with good tactile response. The lower travel distance allows for near silent typing. p106 notebook batteryThe touchpad performs well with its dedicated vertical and horizontal scrolling, but it could be smoother. An improvement would be to use a more textured surface or one that had greater non-stick properties. The trackpoint was surprisingly good. one of the Bargainmeisters here even preferred it to the ThinkPad's trackpoint.bateria hp vr03xl There are two pairs of left/right mouse buttons, depending on which mouse you use. Unfortunately, the buttons proved to be a bit erratic at times, requiring varying amounts of force to register a click depending on your hand position. The E5500 comes with no lack of ports. On the right side, there are mini-firewire, headphone, mic, and two USB 2.0 ports. On the left side, there are s-video, VGA, gigabit Ethernet, two more USB 2.0, and a serial port. Finally, the included dock adds on an eSATA, gigabit Ethernet, VGA, DVI, headphone, mic, and five more USB 2.0 ports. Display The Latitude 5500 is equipped with a 15.6in IPS display, running at 1,920x1,080. This particular aspect also seems like a good place to start explaining the differences between the model we were sent for review and what you can actually buy in the UK. Ours appears to be a US model, since - as if the US keyboard layout wasn't a giveaway - its specs, which include a touchscreen, 32GB of RAM and a 1TB SSD, are only advertised on Dell's US site. Back in Blighty, the closest equivalent lacks the touchscreen, and 'only' has 16GB of RAM and a 512GB SSD, for 1,009 exc VAT. At least where the display is concerned, though, UK buyers won't be missing much. Colour performance is downright awful for a 1,000-plus laptop, with the Latitude 5500 only covering 55% of the sRGB colour gamut and averaging a high average delta-E of 4.03. That doesn't just mean colours lack vibrancy, but accuracy as well. Similarly to its brothers from the Latitude 5000 line-up, the Latitude 5500 uses carbon fiber composites in its build. Moreover, Dell states the material is made from 16.5% recycled materials, which is great for the sustainability of the environment.bateria hp elitebook 8470p All of that is great, but what is even greater is the 1.82 kg weight and the 20 mm profile. This makes the otherwise industrial-looking machine, feel light and easy for handling. As it shares pretty much the same body as the Latitude 5501, the laptop we test today is also unable to open its lid without the help of two hands. Here, however, is where the push for better privacy starts with the Latitude 5500 - it has a hardware shutter on top of the camera. Then we have the base of the laptop. Sadly, the issue from the Latitude 5501 is present here as well - the material around the keyboard bends ever so slightly when you press upon it.1he07aa While it was kind of a problem with the aforementioned device, we can kind of forgive it with the Latitude 5500, because it retails a couple of hundred bucks less. Nevertheless, the keyboard is great -it features a full-layout, including the Number Pad section. The keys themselves are well-spaced and they possess a long travel and clicky feedback. All-in-all a great one for typing. Additionally, you can see the so-called Trackstick. pa 1650 78We personally don?ˉt know why Dell is ashamed to call it a nipple, as it is exactly that, but this is a topic for another conversation. It pairs really well with the proprietary keys above the touchpad, which also has buttons beneath it. In general, this trackpad is really nice - one of the better ones on the market. Turning the laptop upside-down reveals a ventilation grill and the speaker cut-outs. adp 45he bTraditionally with these laptops, the hot air escapes the system from the left side of the machine. Performance: This was our test configuration: Intel Pentium E5500 T7250 @ 2.00GHz; 2GB RAM; 160GB HDD; DVD burner; 802.11b/g; XP Professional; 6-cell battery; 1yr warranty. On the hardware front, the system performed admirably. Boot up to the desktop took 39 seconds. The Intel Core 2 Duo 2.0GHz processor will have absolutely no problems running any applications for businesses. For those who want to run an even more powerful processor, the E5500 offers the option to add the new Peryn-based Core 2 Duo processors. hp spare 710416 001File transfer speeds were on the slow side because our hard drive was only 5400RPM. Dell offers the option to add 7200RPM models up to 160GB and 5400RPM models up to 250GB. Gamers and 3D artists should look elsewhere because the E5500 uses onboard graphics and offers NO options for adding a dedicated video card. The LCD display was crisp and bright, featuring fifteen adjustable levels. The 1280x800 resolution provided a good compromise of screen real estate and font readability. Preliminary battery tests were also impressive... running the screen at 100%, with wifi ON, netted us four hours idling at the desktop. We popped in a Shrek DVD and were able to watch it in its entirety twice before the E5500 went into sleep mode. It also helps that the E5500 provides a bloat-free experience. The only pre-installed third party application that we didn't care for was Google Desktop, and that was painless to uninstall. This system also comes with Windows XP Professional SP3, a godsend for the business traveler who requires stability.bty l76 Over the course of a week of light to medium usage and at least twelve straight hours of Prime95 stress testing, the laptop did not freeze once. Many feel Vista is much too new and immature to rely on, so it comes as no surprise that business-oriented laptops from all the major vendors still offer Windows XP OS as an option. PWM (Screen flickering) Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is an easy way to control monitor brightness. When you lower the brightness, the light intensity of the backlight is not lowered, but instead turned off and on by the electronics with a frequency indistinguishable to the human eye. In these light impulses, the light/no-light time ratio varies, while brightness remains unchanged, which is harmful to your eyes. You can read more about that in our dedicated article on PWM. Dell Latitude 5500's display doesn't use PWM to adjust its brightness levels at any point. bateria lenovo b50 10This makes it comfortable for long work periods, without harming your eyes in this aspect. Conclusion: Business users should definitely consider the Latitude E5500 as an excellent mobile workstation. It is well built, boasts powerful hardware, and packages no bloatware. Best of all, as follows the Dell tradition, it is highly customizable.bateria hp pavilion 17 notebook pc One of the E5500's direct competitors is the Lenovo ThinkPad T61 series, and the E5500 provides strong competition, especially when one considers the price advantage. Wrap up the package with a compact, yet full-featured dock, and you have a reliable system at a tough to beat price.
